Here's what Jeff thinks the tech sector will bring us in 2021 Each year, I like to take a look at the big photo and anticipate what's simply around the corner. Longtime readers of my work understand that I follow the most amazing tech trends on the brink of mass adoption.
These trends are experiencing rapid growth and creating unbelievable chances for financiers. I want to make sure all our readers are prepared for what's next. And with that in mind, let me draw the image of what I see can be found in the next 12 months 1. 5G Devices Our brand-new 5G (fifth-generation) wireless networks are a subject I've been covering for years now.
Even though the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted supply chains last year, a remarkable 250 million 5G-enabled gadgets were still sold. Particularly in the 2nd quarter, there were supply chain interruptions, making delays, and work stoppages. And all of this ultimately resulted in Apple delaying the release of the 5G-enabled i, Phone 12 by 2 months.
And that demand is now going to be pushed into 2021. I forecast that more than 500 million 5G gadgets will be shipped in 2021.
Phase 3 of 5G When I've discussed 5G in the past, I have actually explained its 3 various stages. In Phase One, the facilities of these brand-new networks is built out, including all the new towers and fiber-optic circuitry that 5G will need. In Stage 2, 5G devices go on sale.
And in Phase Three, 5G services start to be provided. That's when we begin to see applications running on 5G networks. And my second 5G prediction for 2021 is that we will start Stage 3 by this summer season.
But they will care if there are amazing applications that can only be accessed with a 5G phone. So more and more customers will head out to purchase a 5G phone to access these applications. That results in more 5G apps being established. In fact, 5G is going to open up a suite of amazing applications: self-driving automobiles, the Internet of Things, robotic surgery, and more.
The investment chances going forward will be massive. 3. CRISPR Genetic Modifying Stepping away from 5G, the next crucial technology I predict in 2021 is CRISPR genetic modifying. CRISPR means "clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat." It's a mouthful. However it's one of the most amazing developments in biotechnology.
